The design brief for the Merlin-XP was to create a road sweeper capable of extracting maximum efficiency and performance when mounted on a 7.5 tonne truck chassis. Because an auxiliary diesel engine pack only compromised an already precious payload capacity, we decided to rely on Scarab’s environmentally-friendly and well-proven Hydrostatic powerered sweeping system. This decision allowed us to maximise both hopper and water capacity while maintaining good weight distribution at all times. In standard trim, the Merlin XP’s 900 litre water tank, 5.5 m3 hopper and potential payload performance of between 2100 and 2300 kg, compares more than favourably with any other 7.5 tonne based street sweeper with the advantages of low fuel costs, low emissions.
